Second Annual Leadership Summit 2011:
Identifying and Serving Gifted, Native American Students
During the summit held in Ganado, AZ in May 2011, after reviewing assumptions from the literature, participants brainstormed important areas for research. They also identified significant areas of need related to discovering and developing talents among Diné children in order to provide them with a quality education. The key to this list is that it reflects the perceived interests and needs of members of th_e educational community on the Reservation, rather than the research interests of those of us from the outside. A major focus of this initiative is addressing the needs of Native American children and their educators by conducting research and providing resources that will lead to improvement in the education of these children.
